Cessna Resumes Production of Sovereign, Rehiring 180

Last week, Cessna has announced the resumption of production of its Sovereign twinjet. The company also announced it had hired back 60 workers, with 120 more to be reinstated in the coming weeks. Even with the announcement, Cessna now plans to build even fewer jets in 2010 than the 275 it delivered last year. Company Cessna has such plans on sales of aircrafts business a class. That compares with the 535 it planned to deliver in 2009. The company pared its overall work force by more than 8,000 employees last year — roughly half the company. But a spokesman indicates downsizing has brought the company to where it needs to be. For example, Cessna said it has increased production rates on its Citation CJ4, with orders in the books for more than 150. First customer deliveries are planned for later this year. Cessna parent company Textron plans to further detail strategies for the company in a regular business report scheduled for release later this month.
